Incontinence Affecting Men

In men, incontinence is prevalent in older men, but this does not mean that everyone will suffer from incontinence as they age.  Fortunately, incontinence is more often treatable.

Nerve damage can cause incontinence issues at any age and individuals who suffer from diseases affecting the nervous system will be more prone to suffer from urinary incontinence.  This is due to the fact that the nervous system and the urinary system work together to dispense urine.  Simply put, the nervous system will signal to the bladder when to hold in urine and when to release.  A damaged nervous system will hinder communication resulting in incontinence.

The prostate glands can also cause symptoms of incontinence in older men.  Typically due to enlarged prostate glands which is also called benign prostatic hyperplasia.  This can cause complication in how men urinate like weaker stream or irregular urinating times.  As you can guess, men who undergo surgery on their prostate gland may become victim to urinary incontinence problems.
